      "FULL BLACK" BY BRAD THORWith a quick-moving plot and action that will keep you unable to put this book down, you'll find yourself so caught up in this book you'll unwittingly become a part of it.A combination of mystery and thriller this book goes into a subject we often ask ourselves. What is the government hiding? Readers that enjoy this type of novel will love it and those that don't will find themselves compelled to read it anyway!You will definitely not want to miss out on this novel!-Kitty Bullard / Great Minds Think Aloud Book Club

      As the title alludes, this is a black ops novel with a very familiar Brad Thor character named Scot Harvath. The Chinese had determined that China could not win a war with the United States so they developed a plan to take down our country from within. That plan was stolen, computers, where it was stored, were wiped, and all those who worked on or knew of it were killed. The plan called for the staging of numerous terrorist incidents in the US to make the Country feel vulnerable and to lead to a loss of confidence in US leadership. This plan was initiated but, with the CIA bogged down by congressional oversite and paperwork, Scot Harvath and his employer, The Carlton Group, set out to uncover the plan’s details and to stop it. Succeeding meant that they had to find and stop the plan’s financier and then close down the terrorist cells that would be used to implement the plan’s strategic steps. This book was typical ‘Brad Thor’ in that there is plenty of action characters that see everything as either black or white, good or bad. I read the book as an audiobook during morning walks. Due to Armand Schultz’s excellent narration, the high-action story served the purpose of taking my mind off the arduousness of my exercise. A book that takes me to another place and keeps me there is a good book from my point of view.

      I don't think I've ever made a discovery like this before but Chapter 61 of this Brad Thor novel has instantly become a surprising and giggling moment in reading…Giggling while reading a Brad Thor novel? Who does that? Let me explain…
      “It was early Monday morning and Robert Ashford was taking his breakfast at his tidy little row house at number 22 Portobello Road in London's Notting Hill.”

      What is so special about Robert Ashford, MI5 Agent, and his breakfast activities? It's not about breakfast but the reveal of his home address. As a cozy mystery reader of Jenn McKinlay's novels and the especially loved Hat Shop Mystery Series, I smiled and giggled to myself thinking of Robert's neighbors, Vivian Tremont, Scarlett Parker, Nick Carroll, and Andre Eisel. Mim's Whims is located on Portobello Road in Notting Hill, London. Nick and Andre's photography/studio is a few shops down Portobello Road from Viv and Scarlett.

      “He (Robert Ashford) had been with Britain's domestic intelligence service for more than thirty years. MI5 was responsible for national security, counterterrorism, and counterespionage within the United Kingdom. It was similar to America's FBI and was often confused with its sister organization, MI6, which was like the American CIA.”

      For those not familiar with the series by Jenn McKinlay, I would introduce you to Vivian Tremont and cousin Scarlett Parker owners of Mim's Whims, a millinery business started by their beloved grandmother Mim. The business is on the first floor and the apartment is upstairs. Or, perhaps Robert's immediate neighbors are Nick Carroll and Andre Eisel. Nick is a dentist by day and his partner Andre the photographer but they run the gallery together.

      Now, as Robert has been in domestic service for more than thirty years, it's also possible that he interacted with Scarlett and Viv's grandmother Mim.

      Oh, the imaginations of an author you say but then there are also the imaginations of their readers.

      By far the best Brad Thor book yet (even better than The Last Patriot), and one of the best books I've read in the past few years. This book mixes outstanding nail-biting suspense with spot-on descriptions of our nation and its issues in a way that just flows through the pages. I recommend this book to anyone.

      Brad Thor has written another great novel that revolves around the Chinese "Unrestricted Warfare" document that explains how the Chinese could defeat a superior country. A billionaire tycoon, James Standing, decides to put this plan in action to collapse the United States. Scot Harvath, an ex-Navy SEAL must try to stop Standing and his hired Muslim extremist. In order to accomplish this, he must perform many things that most people would be squeamish about. Thor does a nice job of distinguishing between the extremist Muslims carrying out the terrorist attacks and the true Muslims that are normal people. The book is well-written and a page turner that will keep you very entertained.

      Another good read from one of my favorite authors. Thor's storylines are always believable and usually deal w/ up to date issues and this is no exception. The idea that an american citizen w/ billions of dollars could back a terrorist organization bent on making attacks within the USA is kind of frightening.

      Brad Thor's "Full Black" was a good, solid thriller. Like Vince Flynn's Mitch Rapp, Thor's Scot Harvath is an all-around bad-ass capable of extreme violence.Not surprisingly, Harvath must save the US again from total devastation. In this case, he's battling James Standing, a billionaire business mogul who's driven by a one-world government ideology. While there's plenty of action, I was a little put off by how technology-driven the sleuthing became. Like the TV show 24, Harvath and the Carlton Group for which he works have such unrealistic (I hope!) technology that can piece millions of bits of data together to help them figure out where certain targets are and where they're going. The main IT guy for the Group can seemingly access any system anywhere.And while we have plenty of Muslim characters who are willing to die for their cause, Thor clearly enjoyed developing the antagonist James Standing. In fact, he dedicates an entire chapter to a scene where Standing's being interviewed by a writer of a business magazine. I think Thor does this so he can provide a capitalism vs. socialism debate. Bottom line: If you like Flynn, you'll like Thor.SPOILER ALERT:I was also a bit disappointed on how it ended. As I was nearing the final pages, I was assuming there was going to be another book dedicated to finding the last two bad guys (Standing being one of them). But it was wrapped up too cleanly. And not even that, but how easily Harvath gets to Standing was way too unbelievable. How he did it was pretty cool, but he essentially picks the guy's lock to his apartment! While there are guards, there's apparently no security system other than the guards and the CCTV.

      The United States finds itself on the brink of a series of terrorist attacks with the goal of brining a complete and total collapse of the United States.Ex-Navy Seal Scot Harvath launches a plan to infiltrate the terrorists' network.Full Black's storyline is extremely realistic and the story is told so well through Brad's writing that it entirely seems like it could happen tomorrow. I had a very hard time putting this book down.

      Seems like just more of the same. The early portions of the book were quite detailed and interesting. But as the story progressed, details become less frequent. Most of the supporting characters didn't have much of a role which was a problem given that parts of the story were told from the perspective of these supporting characters. In addition, especially toward the end, certain things that Harvath is able to accomplish seemed just a bit too easy, as if Thor didn't want to take the time to work through what the plot really required.I was also troubled by Thor's continued blurring of the lines between his interesting and entertaining fiction and his political views. In this case, a fairly-thinly disguised George Soros figure is used to demonize liberal ideas and, at the same time, smear those who might hold those sorts of views. Unfortunately (based on reading what others have tweeted to Thor) many of his readers believe as fact the fictional scenario and evil motives that he creates in his story. And I couldn't help but notice that a subplot included a character that could have been anyone, but Thor chose to make the character a Jew with ties to Israel who sort of "sees the light" and realizes the dangers of liberal ideas, almost as if Thor is pleading for liberal American Jews to abandon the Democratic Party.Thor has intersting stories to tell and is capable of creating good characters. I wish he'd get back to that and leave the politics for Twitter and his appearances on Glenn Beck's show.

      Not one of Thor's best. I read Brad Thor for pure escapism and shoot-em-up action. Normally, he is a real page turner and a quick light read. However, in Full Black has injected his right wing conservative views in the extreme. In several places Thor goes on and on in a diatribe. He thinly veils his lecture in the guise of a character speaking but it is excessive and goes beyond acceptable. I don't need Thor's lectures in the middle of a novel. I have known about Thor's conservative agenda and don't mind it as long as it doesn't destroy his books. Full Black is the first strike, one more and Thor will be off my list.

      This book should be read by every american, especially right before going to the polls. Unconsciously, while beginning the book, it appeared to me to be mimicking today and the path the U.S. appears to be going. Very scary. Only reason I gave it 4 stars was because of the ending. Pissed me off!

      I agree with several other reviewers here. The book's premise is all too believable and parallels much of what is occurring in our world today. This is my third Brad Thor novel and I've enjoyed them all.

      Just recently found Brad Thor and glad I did. Another really good writer to add to the list. This book frightened me. At the front, there is a paragraph that reads: The attacks as well as the strategy in this novel are based upon a disturbing blueprint designed to assist in and encourage the destruction of America. This blueprint, entitled Unrestricted Warfare, is real. You scared now? This book was really well written and brought to the forefront, for me at least, the awareness of how many really scary people there are out there that want to do harm to the US. There's a lot of truth to what he writes and Thor and I share some of the same thoughts.

      A great pick for summer reading especially if sleeping is not part of the plan. This thrill ride is packed with political intrigue, terrorism and enough adventure to keep the reader guessing about what will happen next. If you are an avid Thor fan you'll enjoy this latest Scott Harveth series book - (but, it is certainly a stand-alone one as well.) When terrorists plan to pull the plug on America quite literally as it turns out, Harveth gears up for the fight of his life - spanning the world from Sweden to China and places in between he is taking on powers and forces beyond even his imagination. Why a wealthy American would support an effort to bring America to her knees is an interesting spin and as usual Brad Thor drops historical tidbits and current headlines to make everything in the book much too plausible.The novel will keep you up late reading, but the supposedly fictitious content may leave you sleepless long after you finish this book.
