Hobby adjustments
Never before has Old Cars’ annual “Meet the Industry” issue been more relevant and newsworthy. To say 2020 has been tumultuous is an understatement, but like people, our hobby has adjusted to the challenges put forth by the COVID-19 pandemic.
For the staff focused on the parts of the hobby that were most affected by the challenges put forth by the pandemic, namely in-person activities. Many shows, auctions and flea markets/swap meets were altogether lost or hindered by the necessary steps to keep people at least 6 feet apart to stop the spread. In a hobby known for social activities, social distancing safety steps really ground many activities to a halt and caused organizers of uncanceled events to scramble in order to put on a safe auction or car show.
