Michael Connelly’s 34th novel, Fair Warning, was released from Little, Brown this spring. Here, we revisit his September 1999 interview with WD.
Connelly launched his career as a novelist in 1992 after four years as a crime reporter in Florida and California. With so many years on the beat, he’s a big supporter of on-the-job training on a real-life crime in which burglars tunneled underground into bank vaults and made off with the loot. Because the crime was never solved, it offered the perfect story for a budding mystery writer.
