Around the Bend

nyone looking for a good place to paddle along Route 30 between Indian Lake and Speculator might be forgiven for driving right over the bridge crossing the Jessup River without giving the stream a second look. (I know, because I did it for years.) Although the river drains the 47,350-acre Jessup River Wild Forest, a passing glance seems to reveal a small creek too shallow to allow any reliable navigation. But when my wife, Harriet, and I took the plunge early
