Artist Ron Fondaw, Professor of Art at Washington University in St. Louis’ Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Arts, came to the South Texas Valley and took a critical look at the regional, political, and social experiences that challenge the valley’s communities. From his first-hand, real-world questioning, Fondaw designed a lexicon of icons, symbols, and conceptual messaging that incorporated principles of representational and abstract pastiche.
His idea of declaration is expressed through earthen materials: clay, straw, cement, water, and sun. Four and a half thousand pounds of sun-baked clay cover the armature of the wall
