Chris Thorogood is a biologist at Oxford University and this book has been inspired by the exceptional collections at the University’s Museum of Natural History.

There are two parts: animal groups, and habitats. The former is a swift introduction to the sponges, jellyfish, bristle worms and more found lurking on British shores; the latter is divided into types of shore – shingle, rocky, sandy and so on.
