GARY & SARAH POWER

STARTUP COSTS: ‘I started my part of the business with R20 000 that my Dad had lent me, with a six-month repayment deadline,’ says Sarah. ‘Gary had about R200 000 for his startup expenses. Neither of us wanted to take out a loan, so we looked at our savings and grew from there.’

TURNOVER: ‘In the first year we grew about 100 percent and over the next two years, about 60-70 percent respectively,’ says Gary. ‘We started with one employee; now we have nine.’

Husband-and-wife business duo Gary and Sarah Power met as students at the Silwood School of Cookery
