Fascia for the win

Physiotherapist CHANTELLE VAN ROOYEN shares the latest findings on this fascinating topic.

I often hear patients use the termfascialoosely in conversations, but I suspect that this physical structure remains an enigma to most. It certainly sounds like it is important, but what is it really and why is it so important?

You may have heard the explanation that fascia is like a continuous stocking or Glad® Wrap, that lies between the skin and muscle throughout the body. But this is only the superficial connective tissue.

Thomas Myers, the author of Anatomy Trains, and others, have provided more in-depth research that shows there is so much more to fascia than this superficial layer.
