Justifications for using visuaI
resources in biIinguaI teaching
%he main reasons for using visual resources in bilingual teaching
are the didactics, following the main focus and principles of
CLL teaching. This is done by using visuaI Ianguage as a
substitute for the mother Ianguage of the students
Avoid using the mother Ianguage
Avoid literal translations
Make adaptions to cater for the different abiIity IeveIs of
students (including areas of both comprehension and oral
language)
&se materials with very IittIe text (particularly in the beginning)
Another justification for using visuaI
Ianguage is that it caters for different
Iearning styIes.
#ecent studies show that using visual
learning is the main style of learning for 21st
century students.
There are further justifications
%his method gives the students the maximum
time possible to have contact with the
language being learnt
Students and teachers find this method more
dynamic
Motivation of the students
Cultural aspects are studied in conjunction
with the language
