When Mr. Lockwood returned to Thrushcross Grange after learning the whole story of the Earnshaw and Linton families, he decided to visit the graveyard, where Catherine Earnshaw and her husband, Edgar Linton, lay. Right after he reached the gates, he suddenly felt as if someone was trying to talk to him, but there were neither voices to hear, nor people to see. It was an odd feeling, but he knew it came from the spirits of the one and only Catherine Earnshaw. It frightened him so much that he fell on his knees, and fainted, losing consciousness. -Mr. Lockwood!, youve been out for a very long time now, dont you think you should be awakening?- -Who was that?- says Lockwood in a slothful mood -Its me, Cathy, you were hoping to see me, and here I am to serve you. Lockwood couldnt believe it. The woman that was supposed to be dead was right next to him, and they were both now on the endless fields of Wuthering Heights. -I was wondering what is it that you have thats been driving Mr. Heathcliff crazy lately?, the poor man is wandering all over the mansion, denying every meal Zillah offers him to eat. A very powerful gust of wind woke him up again, but now it was real. He had dreamed the encounter with Catherine, although he did go to the cemetery, so he couldnt explain why he was on the Heights. When he returned to the Grange, he told what had happened to Ellen, but the woman was already aware of Heathcliff madness and wouldnt believe it, because her beloved Cathy was underneath the ground and as long as she knew, ghosts werent real. ~~~~ Next morning Lockwood woke up with the strange feeling once again. Now it was certain; Catherine Earnshaws ghost was hunting him as she had done with Heathcliff, now thinking he was losing his mind as result of the lacking support from others. Downstairs it was empty, it looked as if Nelly was out to Wuthering Heights, so he prepared some breakfast for himself while pondering how to tell Heathcliff about his dreams; Maybe after that he would treat him better knowing Lockwood was the only friend he had left and the only one to believe him. Minutes later Lockwood was preparing himself for the awaited visit, when the doorbell rang impatiently. Heathcliff was standing on the porch expecting Lockwood to let him in, but he was too shocked to proceed with the protocol. -Arent you going to invite me in? Or do you think Ill wait until you perceive its a very cold morning to remain outside.- Said Mr. Heathcliff, using his accustomed bad manners to talk to Lockwood. -Of course, come in and have a sit. Im very happy you decided to visit me, but whats the occasion? Ana Margarita Mercedes Gmez -Well, Mrs. Dean filled me in about your experience at the cemetery earlier yesterday. So tell me, what exactly did Catherine told you?- -Catherines ghost was real; I know it because I remember how beautiful she was on my dream and it was later that night when I finally got to see a picture of hers in Ellens belongings.
The two folks chatted about it for half an hour, then the guest, all of a sudden, decided it was time to go, so he departed a little disturbed and acting differently. ~~~~ Just in time for luncheon, Ellen arrived. And the first thing Mr. Lockwood saw was a sad woman who didnt find herself in that house anymore. After Mr. Lockwoods desperate inquires, Ellen recounted that when she entered Heathcliffs bedroom, she found him dead and with Cathys diary on his hands. Lockwood felt really sorry about him, because he had talked to him just a few hours before. It appeared as if his illness and insanity were too much to bear after all. Then, a week later, it was all arranged for Mr. Lockwoods trip back home, and in his journey, he stopped at the cemetery to visit Heathcliffs tomb. Nothing went wrong this time, just that he was surprised to find Heathcliffs grave next to Catherines. Then, back in the path, he was full with joy because Miss Cathy, the only daughter of Catherine Earnshaw with her husband Edgar Linton, was engaged to her cousin Hareton, who at the beginning was mistreated by the lady. He was also happy because Heathcliff died knowing that he wasnt alone in his disease, because he had one person to accompany him and understand what he was going through, and the desolation in which his life was resumed after Catherine's death. Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange were left behind, along with the image of the two graves, belonging to the man and woman who loved each other and didnt get to be together. They both maddened because of their love, but finally they found time to reunite and have a love affair far from the duty, prejudice and priorities.
