EUROPE ENTERS THE TEIXEIRO PRISON SCHOOL

On Thursday January 30th, the Headmaster and the Coordinator of the Grundtvig Learning Partnership, Foodprint.eu, welcomed the heads of European Programmes in Galicia, Blanca Fraga and Luz Ares, and 15 European colleagues from as many European countries to the provincial prison of A Corua in order to guide them around our school and inform them about the work which is carried out, especially on our Foodprint.eu project.

The visit took place under the Fostering lifelong learning through international education programmes study visit held in Galicia from the 27th to the 30th January 2014. The participants are specialists in education and vocational training from the E.U.

The idea was to offer the 15 participants a general vision of the education system in Galicia as well as to visit ecucation centres and institutions with international programmes which favour longlife learning. Thus, the EPAPU of Teixeiro was chosen for one of the study visits.

The visit lasted two hours, from ten to twelve in the morning, and the 17 group members had the opportunity to see a prison from the inside and above all how a prison school works. They also had the chance to meet students and teachers in a real life classroom situation. The foodprint.eu project coordinator took some time to discuss our European project in the school library and answered all the questions from the experts on education to the best of his ability.

Before leaving, there was time for a group picture in front of the Cathedral of Santiago painted by one of the prison inmates and also a moment to receive positive feedback from the visit by the participants.
