MEN ELITE ATHLETES HAMBURG MARATHON 2013

1 Eliud Kipchoge KEN/1984 debut Eliud Kipchoge is the most experience track athlete of the field and making his marathon debut in Hamburg. He has won medals at Olympic and World level. He came to prominence in 2003 by winning the junior race at the World CC Championships, setting a world junior record over 5000 metres on the track and then becoming world champion at the 2003 World Championships in Athletics. An Olympic 5000m bronze for Kenya followed at the 2004 Athens Olympics and he took another bronze at the 2006 IAAF World Indoor Championships. A series of silver medals came, starting at the 2007 World Championships in athletics before another runner-up placing at the 2008 Summer Olympics. 2 Wilson Kiprop KEN/1987 2.09.09 After some years on the track and cross country, Wilson Kiprop made his move towards road running by running Berlin Half Marathon in 2009 followed by his marathon debut in Prague. In 2010 he won the World Half Marathon Championships in Nanning, China. He set his personal best at the half marathon in Berlin in 2012 by running 59.15 and has the fastest half marathon PB of the field. 3 Chele Dechasa ETH/1984 2.06.33 Chele surprised everyone in 2008 while running his debut marathon in Amsterdam. 4 Joseph Gitau KEN/1988 2.06.58 Joseph Gitau is a Kenyan runner who is based in Japan and running for the JFE Steel Track Team. His first two marathons werent a success, he dropped out in his first marathon and finished after 2.21 in his second marathon. 6 Limenih Getachew ETH/1991 2.07.39 This young and talented athlete made his marathon debut in Cologne last October. In the final stages of the race, Limenih was leading over Kenyan Alfred Kering. But in the last meters Limenih was sent the wrong way which made him lose his leading position. 7 Daniel Abera ETH/1988 2.08.52 Daniel Abera is the younger brother of Gezahgne Abera, the 2000 Olympic Marathon Champion. He is not training in Addis Ababa, but in Eldoret, Kenya. 8 Henry Chirchir KEN/1985 2.09.24 After pacing in last years Hamburg Marathon for Falk Cierpinski he decided he had to make his debut in the fall that same year. 9 Dimitry Safronov RUS/1981 2.09.35 Dimitry is one of Russias best long distance runners of this moment. Having studied a period abroad he learned to speak fluently English. 10 Jacob Cheshari KEN/1984 2.09.43 Jacob Cheshari trains in Iten, Kenya together with Moses and Dennis Masai. After pacing in Rotterdam Marathon he wanted to try the full marathon as well. 11 Grigoriy Andreev RUS/1976 2.10.25 Grigoriy represented Russia in the past three Olympic Games, London, Beijing and Athens. Finishing 14th at the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008 was his best result as a Championship runner. 12 Ricardo Ribas POR/1977 2.14.14 Husband to Portuguese top distance runner Anna Dulce Felix (10.000m European Champion 2012). Ricardo has had a long career starting back in the late 90. 14 Tobias Sauter GER/1983 2.17.27 At the age of 16 Tobias already made his debut in Frankfurt Marathon in a time of 3 hours and 16 minutes. He decided to run another marathon in the spring the following year in Hamburg where he improved himself to 2 hours and 52 minutes, still only 17 years of age. 15 Clint Perret AUS/1983 2.17.28 Clint lives and trains in Basel, Switzerland. Both have similar career path starting running track and cross country and gradually moving up in distance making debuts in 2012 at the marathon distance.
